This page is an attempt to decode the strange three-letter codes for greases and glues that were used in the manufacure of Nikkor lenses over the decades. It's a small list to start, but as we find more materials, we'll add them here! If you have some knowledge to add, drop us a line with the contact link at left.

Cemedine Super-X 8008		• AKA: Cemedine, Super-X, Super-X 8008 • Made by Cemedine Company, Japan • Also used in Canon lens repair, dive suit repair and endoscope repair • Available in black, white and clear colours
		Cemedine Super-X 8008 is a liquid adhesive that turns rubbery when exposed to air. Used frequently as a hold-down glue in AF lenses. More info>

FC-4		• Made by Nippon Koyu Company, Japan • Usually sold in 1Kg cans • Synthetic white grease
		FC-4 is a precision optical grease, used for greasing one or more of the helicoids, cam tubes and slots, lens keys and sliding areas of tubes in many Nikkor lenses More info>

GE-8		• Made by Nippon Koyu Company, Japan • Usually sold in 1Kg cans • Synthetic white grease
		GE-8 is a precision optical grease, used for greasing one or more of the cams, tubes, sliding parts, slots and lens keys and sliding areas of tubes in many Nikkor lenses More info>

H-169	image to come	• Made by Nippon Koyu Company, Japan • Usually sold in 1Kg cans • Synthetic white grease • Molybdenum base
		H-169 is a precision optical grease, used for greasing helicoids in older Nikkor lenses, notably the 50mm AiS. Has better low-temperature performance than FC-4 below -20 Celcius. Sometimes specified in manuals to be mixed with the FC-4 grease above.

I-40		• Made by Nippon Koyu Company, Japan • Usually sold in 1Kg cans • Synthetic black grease • Molybdenum base
		GE-8 is a precision optical grease, used for greasing one or more of the cams, tubes, sliding parts, slots and lens keys and sliding areas of tubes in many Nikkor lenses More info>

Lock End B (AKA Loctite 241)		• Made by Loctite Company • Widely available • Medium strength general threadlocker • used to lock the end of screws, not the tops
		Lock End B is shorthand for Loctite 241, a thread- locker to keep screws where you put them! Repair manuals tytpcially say to use very very little: a microscopic drop on the bottom three threads of a tiny screw, for example. Not to be conufsed with the red Threebond screwlock that is seen on top of screws in Nikkor lenses.

OS-30MEL (AKA "DrySURF)	Image to come	• AKA "DRY SERF" or "DRYSURF" • Made by Harves company, Japan • oil barrier • Difficult to ship and use, as it evaporates quickly
		OS-30MEL is an precision-engineered liquid that forms a film that acts as an oil barrier. You see this used often in lenses near the helicoids, to prevent oil from migrating into the lens elements.

Screw Lock 1401C	Image to come	• Made by Threebond Company • Light strength threadlocker • Used to lock the tops of screws • Hazardous goods, can only be shipped by ground or sea
		Screw Lock 1401C is shorthand for Threebond 1401C, a light duty thread- locker. This is the red stuff you see all the time on top of screws in Nikkor lens. As this is a hazardous good, it's best to look for it locally, where it can cometimes be found through auto and motorcycle supply stores.

Polyseter film tape		• Generic polyester film tape • used to cover adjustment holes and to hold FPC's in place • Part numbers iunclude TA-0008 AND TA-0018
